In 1904, the international governing body of football, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), was formed in Paris, France. FIFA was established to oversee the growth of the sport and to organize international competitions, including the World Cup, which was first held in 1930.


The modern game of football has come a long way from its origins as a chaotic and violent folk sport played in England's medieval towns and villages. Today, it is a highly organized and regulated sport played by millions of people around the world. It has also become a global phenomenon, with the World Cup being the most-watched and widely followed sporting event on the planet.
